Few cookies. No surprises.

The site uses a small number of cookies and similar storage. Here’s the full list.

On the site

The site is close to cookieless. Here’s what we actually use:

NamePurposeWhereLifetime
themeRemembers your light or dark mode preferenceFirst-party local storageUntil you clear it
Vercel Analytics visitor IDAnonymized page-view counts and Core Web VitalsFirst-party local storage (no tracking cookies)Daily-rotating, hashed

We do not run advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or social-media widgets. The site works fine if you block storage entirely — the only thing you’ll lose is the dark-mode memory.

In the newsletter

Each issue is sent through Beehiiv. The emails contain two kinds of tracking:

  • A 1×1 invisible image (a tracking pixel) that signals the email was opened.
  • Wrapped links that record a click before redirecting to the destination.

We use these signals in aggregate to see which sections work and which don’t. If that bothers you, you can disable image loading in your email client and we won’t see opens.

How to control cookies

You can block, delete, or limit cookies in your browser’s settings. It won’t break the site. Common starting points:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.

Most modern browsers can send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal to sites you visit. Where applicable law requires us to honor it (notably California under CCPA), we do.
